Oregon’s map has been quietly redrawn since 2020. Portland — still the anchor at about 636,000 residents — has actually shrunk, while the growth shifted elsewhere: Bend is up more than seven percent, Corvallis over six, Tigard about four, and Hillsboro three. Salem, the state capital, has added residents steadily too. For local businesses, that migration matters more than any headline: customers are forming new buying habits in the places they’ve moved to, and they’re forming them through search.

The west-side tech corridor changes expectations as well. Hillsboro and Beaverton sit at the heart of the Silicon Forest, home to major semiconductor employers and a workforce that lives in well-built software all day. A landscaper or dental office competing for those customers is judged against the most polished digital experiences in the state — a slow or dated site reads as a warning sign before anyone reads a word.

Outside the Portland metro, Oregon runs on distinct regional economies. Eugene pairs the University of Oregon’s annual student churn with a strong outdoor and crafts sector. Bend has become a tourism and remote-work magnet where seasonal visitors and new arrivals both search constantly. Medford anchors the Rogue Valley’s agriculture and wine country, and Salem and Albany serve the broader Willamette Valley. Each of those markets rewards different content — and punishes generic copy.
